A Busy year so far May 22 2015

WOW!!!! here I am, again running behind on my blog posts....I seriously need and would love a P.A. It's been go go go. I have been flat out getting out commissions, promoting my Tahiti workshops, teaching my Sydney art classes and getting ready and painting towards my up coming residency at Le Meridien Tahiti and exhibition at Gallerie Winkler in Papeete. I have been so busy I have neglected to mention the fabulous press I have been getting all year.

In March 'Two Quirky Birds' did a lovely piece on me, my work and my home, I was the featured freedom traveller in April on 'The Freedom Travellers' blog, KarryOn wrote a great piece in May about my workshops in Tahiti and the 'pièce de résistance'.... I am very excited to have just received a copy of the 2015 edition of Le Meridien magazine Tahiti and Bora Bora in which I am featured over 3 pages and in 3 languages.

May Mayhem June 07 2014

It's been so busy at the 'Bohemian Island Palace' I haven't had a chance to do any blogging.

So much has happened. The art classes are booming, my home has been used as a location again for 'Better Homes and Gardens' magazine, my Tahiti workshops are full -  which has been such an organisational challenge, I feel like I have become mini Tahiti Tourisme Bureau and I have been painting towards and designing a new collection of 'Hero' cushions for my upcoming Urban Amazons exhibition for Sydney.

'Better Homes and Gardens' magazine chose my home as location for their craft section as it had a Boho theme. What better place to use than the 'Bohemian Island Palace'. It was a crazy day full of colour and I met some wonderful people including the talented Andre Martin, who photographed the shoot and stylist, Lisa Hilton, who cleverly made sure my 'Hero' cushions were placed oh so obviously in shot awarding me some much appreciated editorial.

As you may know my art classes are going extremely well. I am fully booked for term 2 and only limited places are left for term 4.

I'm so proud of my students, their work is improving in quantum leaps. These are some of their works completed in term 1.

Art Classes Sydney April 15 2014

Wow, I can't believe it's April already...March was such a busy Month, and the pace does not seem to be slowing. I thought I could lay low for a bit after my 'Urban Amazons' exhibition opened, but as soon as I returned to Sydney my new Art Classes Sydney began.

I started at first with only the 2 sessions, but was quickly urged to begin a second evening session...I wonder if it has anything to do with the '6-9 with Cheese and Wine' title.

I must say I am really enjoying the classes, and my students are progressing so quickly. Take a look at these pics below.

Urban Amazons February 04 2014

I have been painting like a demon towards my upcoming exhibition 'Urban Amazons' at Tusk Gallery, Chapel Street South Yarra.

This will be my first exhibition in Melbourne, I am excited and nervous at the same time.

The gallery has asked me for an artists statement, which in the past I never provided but in this case I actually was dying to share with people my inspiration behind this body of work..please read below.

Urban Amazons, 6 - 27 March 2014

The ‘Amazons’ were a nation/tribe of all female warriors in Greek mythology.
This body of work has been inspired by an emerging tribe of women in society today that I refer to as the
‘Urban Amazon’
These girls are strong, feisty, and extremely feminine. Their sense of aesthetic is a form of expression and a statement of their sensuality removed from the norm that society dictates.
However it is by no means a protest against the stereotyped roles that women have been groomed towards for generations, nor a statement of yet another pigeon hole called 'feminism'. It appears to me to be a natural evolution and an uncontrived liberation to be simply themselves.
They celebrate their femininity in a unique, unencumbered way with a beautiful confidence.
All my models I have found by chance out and about and this body of work has evolved through these women.

Art/Edit magazine Jan/Mar 2014 January 17 2014

Here it is!!!

And to my surprise it is a 6 page spread!

A wonderfully written article by Helen McKenzie and Photos by Zan Wimberley. She took 100"s of fab photos, however I am a little perplexed as to why the editor chose this photo of me. I look rather grumpy and I most definitely am NOT! I guess they were going for that 'Serious artist with mystery' look.

ART/EDIT magazine January 15 2014

The first issue of Art/Edit magazine is due to hit the stores this week! AND inside you will find a 4 page article about me and my work etc, I am very excited and nervous at the same time.....I haven't actually seen it yet, so stay tuned for pics etc. I'll post them as soon as I get my hands on an issue.

I love their motto...."Love it, buy it, hang it !"

Yes buying art is as simple as that.

First Post October 09 2013

My first blog!

For those of you are more familiar with me and my work you have known of me as a practicing visual artist for the past 20 years.

Recently I have decided to branch out into the world of textile design. Considering my background and the fact that I have been incorporating textiles in my painting for the past decade now, it seemed like a natural progression.

I have always had a bit of an obsession with cushions. Some people have likened my home to the inside of a Genies bottle. So what better place to begin by translating my paintings onto what I refer to as the 'Hero Cushion'.

Earlier this year I released my first range of 100% Eco friendly, Australian made cushions and limited edition wall hangings. This range was aptly named 'Bohemian Wahine' after my first trip to Tahiti where I was inspired by the lushness and sensuality of this beautiful island and where I am fortunate enough to have an annual painting residency.
